Falcao puts Colombia on brink
Colombia sailed toward the 2014 World Cup with a 2-0 win Friday over troubled Paraguay, thanks to a brace from in-form striker Radamel Falcao.
Falcao, who is performing at an impressive level with Atletico Madrid, was on target in Barranquilla in the 52nd minute and the 89th minute.
Colombia currently top the South American qualifiers standings with 16 points in eight games, though they could be overtaken again by Argentina if they beat Uruguay later Friday. In any case, Colombia appeared to have good chances of returning in 2014 to a World Cup they have not played since 1998.
Paraguay, on the other hand, have played the last four World Cups but appear unlikely to make it to Brazil in 2014: they are currently bottom of the standings with just four points.
